Pikey’s
End of Season Report, incorporating Chailey Match Report, Stardate 3rd
September

I spend most of Friday and Saturday morning stewing on the
fact we may still go down. Once at the ground Tom tells me we were safe about
three weeks ago – my maths has never been good.
I win the toss for once and decide we will have a bat. The
early loss of the Almighty Mr. Papa Barker calls for the Captain to run out to
do a spot of umpiring, this leads to my first mistake of the day, giving out
the Chairman LBW for 1 is never a good idea. In fact Pete’s quote was I am
worse than Gary Ireland and Stavross put together and should learn the rules of
umpiring – Oh Dear! We struggle to 125 all out and only the steady batting of
Windy gets us out of some sort of trouble.
(Note: Hawkeye did reveal later the ball struck The Chairman
in line with the stumps, and was most probably out)
Chailey get off to a reasonable start – however Tom pulls
up with hamstring trouble, personally I think it was the Chinese at 1am
Saturday morning doing his guts in. I decide to take myself off early, blaming
my knee, but knowing the Saturday bowling cup could be in the bag it was a good
idea to come off – even if I had their openers in my back pocket!
Good bowling from the scary Mercado (I don’t know why but
he reminds me of the guy that Flash Gordon fights to save the Universe – Ming
The Merciless) and he bags another wicket thanks to the great fielding of Luke
Skywalker – what a catch.
Lovely bowling by Mr Floyer earns him a wicket and we had a
sniff of getting back in the game. Three drops in the field, Bradders (not a
good day), myself (still worrying about Brads) and Jase (thinking of his
dinner) lets Chailey off and Steve misses a stumping (worrying where have all
the runs gone, sorry Steve had to get that in) leading to Chailey romping to an
eight wicket win.
Still overall a very good season. We won some games, drew
some, and lost loads!! Thank you to all who played and helped. We all chipped
in and the spirit was great – no worries about next season – I think we will do
well.
Cheers
